Beginning Canasta (In-Person Only)

Course Description: Canasta is a fun and popular card game that can be very intimidating at the beginning. With practice, you will get better over time and learn to play forming your own strategies. Canasta is a great game for socializing with small groups of people since a game can last an hour or more. If you'd like to learn this game, we would love for you to join us.

Week 1: Introduction; what is needed to play canasta; the objective; getting started (the deal); card values; melding; subsequent melding; 3's 7's and aces.

Week 2 Review; penalties; exceptional melds; going out; scoring; if time, one table to play an open hand for all to observe and ask questions.

Week 3: Review; special hands, each table plays an open game.

Week 4: Review; canasta strategies; each table plays a game either open or closed.

Week 5: Review; each table plays a game either open or closed.

Week 6: Review; each table plays a closed game.
