Course Description: This is the century of Asia. In this course, we will examine the socioeconomic, historical, and political environment of specific Asiatic countries. 

Fall 1:

Week 1

History of Japan until the 19th century.

Week 2

History of Japan until post WWII.

Week 3

History of Japan from WWII until today.

Week 4

Indonesia: Largest Islamic country in control.

Week 5

Malaysia: the rising power of Muslim Asia.

Week 6

Bangladesh/Pakistan: Frenemies?

 

Fall 2:

Week 1

China: current economic and political conditions.

Week 2

China continued/Philippines.

Week 3

Vietnam and Thailand.

Week 4

Central Asia…stan nations.

Week 5

Continue examining stan nations.

Week 6

Asia in the 21st century.
