Medical billing and coding and its related occupations are among the fastest growing opportunities in the healthcare industry. A certification in MBC will help to prepare students for a rewarding career in a wide array of medical settings such as medical record coders, insurance billers and health information technicians.

Upon successful completion of the Medical Billing and Coding Certificate Program, students will demonstrate proficiency in:

  1. Applying medical terminology effectively in the practices of medical billing and coding
  2. Differentiating anatomy, physiology and disease pathology concepts in the interpretation of medical documentation and the assignment of standardized codes
  3. Diagnostic and procedural coding
  4. Certification Examination Preparation

This program will prepare you to take one standard block, and a choice of five add ons based on the different coding exams:

  • Medical Billing and Coding Standard Block Certified Professional Coder (CPC®)
  • Medical Billing and Coding Standard Block with Certified Outpatient Coding (COC™)
  • Medical Billing and Coding Standard Block with Certified Coding Associate (CCA®)
  • Medical Billing and Coding Standard Block with Certified Coding Specialist (CCS®) 

The standard block for this Program provides 60 contact hours with a time commitment of 210 hours. The examination preparation module provides 10 contact hours with a time commitment of 40 hours.
