Q: Are there any requirements to enroll?
A: Yes. You must be at least 18-years old to register.
Q: Will the instruction be in English?
A: No! We teach the language in the language. This is the immersion method and it is very successful. Simply put, you will learn French in French. In this way, you will not be translating constantly, which will slow down your progress in learning the language.
Q: What makes UM’s classes different than others in Miami?
A: Our immersion methodology – you learn French in French, so you’re not wasting time translating. From the first day in our classes, you are filling your language toolbox with vocabulary and phrases.
- Our instructors – they are fluent, native speakers of the languages they teach AND have advanced degrees – either Master’s or doctoral degrees.
- Our class sizes – they are small, and can be individualized, and that gives you more opportunity to practice the language.
- Our focus & curriculum – is on YOU and your acquiring the target language skills from Day 1.
Q: How long is the class? What’s the class schedule?
A: Classes are arranged to meet your schedule needs; we are flexible.
Q: What will I learn?
A: You will learn vocabulary, grammar, and phrases in order to ask and answer questions, talk about days & dates, describe places and daily activities, restaurants, family, and travel.
Q: I studied French in school. Will I benefit from this class?
A: If you have some knowledge of French, it will benefit you in the class and your progress will be accelerated. If you have some spoken ability in French, you should contact our office to talk with an instructor to assess your level.
