Ruth Hernandez

Ruth Hernandez is an accomplished healthcare professional with over 20 years of experience in the healthcare industry and long term care community. She has worked in healthcare management roles for several South Florida healthcare programs including one of the largest Medicaid Health Maintenance Organizations in the state of Florida and in the Nation.
PAs a Territory Supervisor, Ruth has directed and overseen the activities of teams of more than 15 case managers. Also, Ruth has hired, mentored, and trained case/care managers, nurse care managers, healthcare administrators and other healthcare professionals to perform their jobs effectively. This has included field work monitoring and evaluation of her staff.
Prior to becoming a healthcare manager, Ruth started her career as a case manager for an elderly community care program. She worked with low-income individuals and their caregivers / families, as well as, individuals with disabilities of all ages. Ruth assisted clients in obtaining the appropriate resources needed in order to improve their quality of life, find proper placement, and prevent nursing home placement in the elderly population.
Ruth understands the complexities of the U.S. healthcare system and has extensive knowledge of the Medicare and Medicaid systems. As a healthcare leader and communicator, Ruth believes that healthcare professionals should always be developing their skills and learning how to use their strengths to help their consumers. In addition, Ruth mentored and educated her employees so they would be better able to advocate for their clients.
Ruth earned a Masters of Health Services Administration and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Florida International University. She completed a residency program in Healthcare Administration with the Office of the Director at the Miami VA Medical Center. Ruth also has experience as an Adjunct Professor of Health Policy and Management at FIU, and is currently a Lecturer for the University of Miami, Division of Continuing and International Education Patient Advocacy Certificate Program.
Ruth is passionate about helping individuals in need and educating others on how to assist the community as a whole. She has served as an active member and Chair of Communications for the South Florida Healthcare Executive Forum. She enjoys reading, volunteering with charitable organizations, and spending quality time with her family.
