The popular and poignant film [Amadeus] (1984) portrays Mozart as an infantile genius, who was victimized by the mediocrity of his surroundings and ended his life in undeserved misery. Unpacking the Balkans PT 2 (Hybrid)

This course highlights the urban characteristics of the Balkans, from architecture and history to commerce and trade. The region’s minorities, including Romani, Jews, Vlachs, and Gorani will get special attention. We look at the conflicts of the 1990s (Bosnia and Kosovo) from an internationalist perspective and focus on the nations that emerged from these conflicts. A session on contemporary culture, with a particular emphasis on film, music, and TV is included.
